Limits

  • Generation only — no editing, no publishing. The single tool creates sites. B12's help centre routes every subsequent action to its own platform, and there is no tool for reading, updating, publishing or deleting a site. An agent cannot check what it made, or unmake it.
  • The site is not yours until you claim it. The tool returns a link to claim and edit the site. Until someone opens that link on B12 and takes ownership, the draft exists but belongs to nobody, which is a real state to track if an agent generates several.
  • Sites are locked to B12's editor and hosting. The tool description is explicit that websites are hosted by B12 and can only be edited online using the b12.io software suite. There is no export path through this connector.
  • Publishing has costs the connector does not surface. B12's plans page lists a free tier limited to a .b12sites.com subdomain with limited daily and monthly AI credits; a custom domain, removal of B12 ads and higher credit allowances start at 49 US dollars a month, or 42 with annual billing. No tool reports a credit balance, so an agent cannot check quota before spending it.
  • Every call creates something. generate_website is annotated readOnlyHint: false. There is no read-only tool on this server, so there is no safe way to inspect anything without generating a new site.
  • The widget only renders in some clients. The preview resource requires a client implementing the MCP Apps UI extension. In every other client the same call returns text.
  • No prompts advertised. Anthropic's directory records an empty prompt_names array for this connector, and the cached handshake captured the tool surface only.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a B12 account to use the MCP server?

No. B12's help centre states you can connect to the MCP server and generate a site without an existing account. The account becomes necessary later, when you open the returned link to claim the draft, edit it and publish it. So the generation step is genuinely anonymous and the ownership step is not.

Is the B12 MCP server free to use?

Yes, connecting costs nothing according to B12's help centre. Running a published site is separately priced: B12's plans page lists a free subscription with a yourbusiness.b12sites.com subdomain and limited AI credits, then paid tiers from 49 US dollars a month that add a custom domain, remove B12 ads and raise the credit allowance.

Can I use this to update a site I've already built in B12?

No. The tool generates new sites only, and B12 says so twice. Its help centre answers this question by describing the one-way flow to the editor, and the tool description states that creating a separate, additional website means calling the tool again. Editing happens on b12.io, not through the connector.

What happens to the site after it's generated?

Your AI client returns a preview image and a link, per B12's help centre. Opening that link takes you to B12's platform, where you claim the draft, preview it, make final adjustments and publish it when ready. Nothing goes live automatically, and the connector has no publish tool of its own.

Why is the B12 connector not asking me to sign in?

Because it genuinely has no sign-in. We opened an anonymous connection to mcp.b12.io on 2026-09-08 and read the full tool list with no credential, and all three OAuth discovery documents returned 404. B12's own help centre lists only the server URL as a prerequisite, alongside an MCP-compatible client.

Why does the B12 connector not appear in my Claude conversation?

Adding it to your account is not the same as turning it on. B12's troubleshooting steps say to confirm the connector is toggled on for the specific conversation, using the plus button in the lower left of the chat window. Check the URL has no trailing characters, then restart the client and reconnect.

Can I add the B12 connector on a Claude Team or Enterprise plan?

Not by yourself. B12 documents that an Owner must add it at the organization level first, through Organization Settings, Connectors, Add, Custom, Web. Individual members then connect from their own Settings and Connectors. B12 also notes free Claude accounts allow only one custom connector at a time.
