Limits

Retrieval is not a publishing licence, and this is the operative constraint. CNA's Terms of Service, Chapter 5, state that copyright and other intellectual property in the news content, images and related data supplied through the service belong to CNA or the original rights holder, and that a subscriber acquires only a right to use within the licensed scope and may assert no ownership. Chapter 2 separately forbids unauthorised bulk reproduction, resale, distribution and sub-licensing. The sign-up form makes you tick the same undertaking before it will create an account. An agent that retrieves CNA copy and republishes it is outside the subscription, whatever the subscription cost.
What the licensed scope actually permits is not published. CNA's terms grant use "within the licensed scope" and never define that scope in the public documents. Quotation length, attribution format, whether summaries generated from CNA reporting may be published, and what commercial use a NT$200 individual plan covers are all unstated. CNA's registration form asks whether your intended use is news, academic research, education, a commercial product or other, which implies the answer varies by use — but no page maps a use to a permission. If your application publishes anything derived from CNA content, ask CNA in writing at services@cna.com.tw before you build on it.
Photographs carry their own licensing, separately. CNA's business-enquiries page lists "news archive / photo licensing, content partnerships" as a thing you contact its sales team about, distinct from the MCP subscription. cna-photo-search returns photograph records; treating a returned photograph as cleared for publication is a licensing error.
Usage is metered and the meter is hard. One credit per API call, 500 per month on the NT$200 individual plan, with a promotional bonus CNA says may change. CNA's terms state that when credits run out the service pauses until you buy more or resubscribe, that spent credits are non-refundable, and that unused plan credits are not carried past the billing period. An agent looping over a broad search will exhaust a month's quota quickly.
Two tools are undocumented and read as writes. fact-check-publish and fact-check-review are named nowhere in CNA's documentation. Nothing establishes them as read-only, and no annotation was readable.
No scope granularity. The one advertised scope is claudeai, which names the client rather than a permission level. No consent screen can offer a narrower grant, and no issued token can be audited afterwards for the absence of write access.
The legal documents are Traditional Chinese only. Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Security Policy have no English version we could find, though the product pages and setup guides do. CNA's terms specify Republic of China law and the Taipei District Court as the first-instance forum. An English-speaking buyer is agreeing to a contract they cannot read in the original without translation.
Your queries are logged. CNA's Privacy Policy states that it collects query keywords, call records, usage frequency, timestamps, IP address and device information, and retains system logs. It says individual query content is not disclosed externally and that query data is used for service analysis in de-identified or aggregated form, but internal processing for operations and security is expressly carved out of that undertaking.
CNA disclaims content accuracy. Chapter 6 of the terms states the content is for reference, that CNA does not guarantee it is absolutely current, complete or error-free, and that CNA accepts no liability for direct or indirect loss arising from your use, to the maximum extent the law allows. On a connector whose selling point is trustworthiness, that disclaimer is the operative accuracy limit.
No cooling-off period. CNA classifies the service as digital content completed on delivery and requires you to waive the seven-day right of withdrawal under Taiwan's Consumer Protection Act before subscribing. It states it cannot provide the service to anyone who declines.
CNA's own figures do not agree with each other. The product site says 4.78 million reports and 3.37 million photographs; CNA's launch report and Radio Taiwan International's coverage both say "nearly five million" and 3.5 million. The rounder figures are from an announcement and the precise ones from the product page. Treat either as approximate.
Gemini support is unstable, by CNA's own admission. CNA states in its Gemini Spark guide that Gemini's MCP integration is new and that CNA MCP's behaviour there is not consistently reliable, and invites bug reports. Gemini Spark additionally requires a Google AI Pro subscription.
We could not read tool schemas or annotations. The endpoint requires OAuth, so parameter-level detail and machine-readable safety hints are not published here. Tool names come from Anthropic's directory listing.
The archive is Taiwan-centred and Traditional Chinese. CNA describes coverage across diplomacy, finance, politics, society, cross-strait, international and lifestyle, reported by a Taiwanese national news agency. It is a single publisher's archive, not a multi-source news index, and this page takes no position on any matter its reporting covers.

CNA publishes illustrated setup guides for eight destinations: ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini Spark, Notion AI, Claude Code, Codex CLI, and an AI-assisted install for Codex or Claude Code. CNA warns that Gemini's MCP support is new and that CNA MCP may behave inconsistently there. Microsoft Copilot is listed as in integration testing.
