What the Evernote connector does

The Evernote MCP server connects an Evernote account to Claude and any MCP-compatible agent. Its 27 tools search notes by keyword or meaning, create and edit notes, organise notebooks, Spaces and tags, manage tasks and handle attachments. Sign-in is OAuth with no API key, and the connector is in beta on paid plans only.

Limits

  • Beta. Evernote states the server is rolling out gradually and that behaviour, tools and supported clients may change.
  • Paid plans only. Free (Basic) accounts are excluded. On Business and Teams, admins can manage access for the organisation and its members.
  • Deletion is in the grant. One of four OAuth scopes is delete. Note deletion goes to the trash and is recoverable via restore_note; task deletion is not documented as recoverable.
  • The write safeguard is your client's prompt. Evernote's documented mitigation is to review write actions before confirming; no server-side confirmation step is published.
  • Rate limits are per minute, both per tool and across all tools. Evernote publishes no figure.
  • Client support varies. Evernote notes some clients do not yet support remote MCP servers or OAuth, and names Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex as the set it actively tests.
  • We did not read tool schemas. The endpoint requires authentication, so names come from Anthropic's directory and behaviour from Evernote's documentation. We exercised no tool.

Frequently asked questions

Which Evernote plans can use the MCP server?

Paid personal, Business and Teams plans only. Evernote states that Free (Basic) accounts are not included, and that Business and Teams admins can manage MCP access for their organization and members. If your account is not eligible, Evernote says you will see a message explaining why when you try to connect.

Can the Evernote MCP server delete my notes?

Yes, and the OAuth grant says so: the server advertises four scopes and one is delete. The delete_note tool moves a note to the trash rather than erasing it, and restore_note puts it back. delete_task removes a task. Evernote's own guidance is to treat write actions as you would any automation and review before confirming.

Do I need an Evernote API key?

No. Evernote documents OAuth 2.0 with no keys or tokens to manage: you sign in once in your client and approve access on Evernote's consent screen. Clients supporting OAuth Dynamic Client Registration connect with no manual setup at all, because the server registers your client automatically as part of the flow.

Is the Evernote MCP server generally available?

No, it is in beta. Evernote states the server is rolling out gradually and that behaviour, tools and supported clients may change while they learn. It actively tests Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex. Treat the tool list on this page as a snapshot rather than a stable contract.

Are there rate limits on the Evernote MCP server?

Yes. Evernote documents that tool calls are rate-limited per minute, both per individual tool and across all tools together. If you hit a limit, Evernote advises pausing briefly before retrying, and notes that most clients back off and retry automatically. No specific per-minute figure is published.

Can the Evernote MCP server read notes I cannot see?

No. Evernote states access is scoped to what your account already allows, so the AI tool can only see and change what you can see and change. You approve that access during sign-in. The connector inherits your Evernote permissions rather than widening them.
