Limits
- Every tool call spends credits, and the two vendor pages price them differently. vidIQ's help centre puts most calls at 5 credits and video watch at 10; its MCP page prices video watch at 25 and lists thumbnail generation at 22 and voice cloning at 50. Both were retrieved 2026-09-09. We cannot say which is current — check
vidiq_balancebefore a long chain. - Credits are shared, not MCP-specific. vidIQ's plan documentation gives a Free plan 150 credits a month and Max plans 6,000 to 10,000, drawn from one pool that also feeds the AI Coach, thumbnail builder and script writer. Unused credits do not roll over. Heavy MCP use reduces what is left for vidIQ's other AI features.
- Private analytics need a connected channel.
vidiq_channel_analyticsandvidiq_subscriber_insightswork only for YouTube channels authorised to your vidIQ account. vidIQ states the connector cannot return private analytics for channels you do not own. - Instagram coverage is public profiles only, and TikTok content is not covered. vidIQ says Instagram tools fail on private accounts. Anthropic's directory adds that Instagram and TikTok data come from a mix of third-party sources and vidIQ's own collection, and that Instagram data is not sourced through Meta's official API — a provenance caveat vidIQ's own MCP page does not make.
- We read no tool schemas or safety annotations. The endpoint requires OAuth, so the read/write classification above is derived from tool names and vidIQ's documentation. No
readOnlyHintordestructiveHintvalue was observed. - Nine tools advertised by vidIQ are not in Anthropic's listing, including thumbnail generation, voice cloning and music generation. Whether they are live on this endpoint is unresolved.
- The consent screen offers one scope. The server declares
scopes_supported: ["api"], so there is no read-only variant to authorise. Rate limits are not published by vidIQ at any URL we reached, and we did not observe any. - vidiq.com blocks non-browser clients. Every path on
vidiq.comreturned HTTP 429 with a Vercel Security Checkpoint body tocurl, includingrobots.txt. The pages cited here were read with a real browser, which the site'srobots.txtpermits.
Frequently asked questions
No. vidIQ's own MCP page states the server is read-only for your YouTube channel and cannot post videos or change channel settings. Its help centre repeats this and names the one exception: the connector can add or remove entries in the vidIQ competitor watchlist stored inside your vidIQ account, not on YouTube.
Every plan, including Free. vidIQ's help centre said on 20 July 2026 that MCP is available on Free, Boost and Max during the launch period, and its MCP page repeats that it is available on every plan. Calls draw on the same monthly AI credit allowance as vidIQ's other AI features rather than a separate quota.
vidIQ's help centre states most calls cost 5 credits, a handful of utility tools cost nothing, and the two video-understanding tools cost 10. Its MCP marketing page prices several tools higher, listing video watch at 25 credits. The two vendor pages disagree, so check your live balance before running long chains.
No. vidIQ states on its MCP page that the server runs on vidIQ's own data infrastructure rather than the YouTube Data API, so your YouTube API quota is unaffected. Channel analytics for channels you connected to vidIQ are the exception worth noting, since those are drawn from your authorised YouTube Analytics grant.
The analytics tool only covers YouTube channels you have authorised to your vidIQ account. vidIQ's help centre says to connect the channel at app.vidiq.com under Channel Settings first. It also states plainly that the connector cannot return private analytics for channels you do not own, however public their data may be.
Two routes, both documented by vidIQ. Disconnect the connector inside your AI tool's own settings, or revoke it from the vidIQ side at app.vidiq.com under Account Settings and MCP. vidIQ describes the connection as OAuth, so your AI tool holds an authorisation token rather than your vidIQ password.
Not yet for TikTok content itself. vidIQ's help centre states coverage is YouTube in full plus public Instagram profiles and reels, and that TikTok is not supported. One listed tool name does reference TikTok in an outlier search, and Anthropic's directory notes Instagram and TikTok data come partly from third-party sources.
