Limits

  • No trading at this endpoint. All 23 tools read. Clear Street's guide states the read-only URL "cannot place or cancel orders under any circumstances".
  • A sibling endpoint does trade, and the URL is the only gate. Clear Street publishes a second MCP endpoint at /v1/mcp/trading carrying six additional order tools. Both endpoints advertise the same two OAuth scopes, openid and offline_access — confirmed on both resource descriptors on 2026-09-08 — so no scope distinguishes reading from trading. Which URL you paste is the control. If someone reconfigures the connector to the trading URL, the read-only guarantee on this page no longer applies.
  • Orders on the trading endpoint are submitted without a confirmation step. Clear Street states that on the trading URL both Claude and ChatGPT "are able to submit orders without approvals". That behaviour is out of scope for the read-only endpoint but belongs next to it.
  • Clear Street's own disclosures apply, unsoftened. Clear Street states that AI assistants can misinterpret instructions or act on incomplete information, that information reaching the assistant "may not be complete or current" and may not reflect recent transactions, valuations, corporate actions, interest or dividend payments, fees or margin balances, and that official brokerage statements control in the event of a discrepancy. Clear Street states you are solely responsible for reviewing and monitoring account activity.
  • Not investment advice, and it does not know you. Clear Street states the AI agent "does not consider your financial objectives, risk tolerance, time horizon, or other personal factors", and that its MCP guide is for informational purposes and is not investment advice. This page takes no view on any instrument, rate, screen or strategy.
  • Entitlement-gated, per account. Access requires an OEMS trading account entitlement; Clear Street's troubleshooting names "no OEMS accounts are available for this connection" as the failure when the login lacks one. Order placement additionally requires the Trade permission on the account in scope.
  • Market data scope is level one, and gaps are expected. Clear Street's market-data API reference describes the snapshot as a top-of-book quote and last trade with NBBO venue codes, and repeatedly documents fields as absent when no data is available — including option Greeks for instruments where none have been observed. Clear Street does not publish exchange-licensing or data-subscription requirements for MCP, so whether a given quote depends on a separate market-data entitlement is undocumented.
  • Rate limited. The endpoint returned x-ratelimit-limit: 99 on our unauthenticated request on 2026-09-08. Clear Street's MCP guide does not document a rate limit, so treat the observed header as an indication rather than a published policy.
  • No parameter schemas here. The endpoint requires authentication, so we did not read the server's own tool schemas or safety annotations. Tool names come from Anthropic's directory listing and descriptions from Clear Street's published tables.

Frequently asked questions

Not at this endpoint. Clear Street's MCP guide states the read-only URL cannot place or cancel orders under any circumstances, and all 23 tool names in Anthropic's directory listing read data. Clear Street publishes a separate trading URL that does place orders; connecting it is a deliberate, different action described below.

The URL is the only difference, and it decides what your assistant can do. Clear Street documents two endpoints: the read-only one covered by this page, and a trading one ending in /trading that adds order placement, replacement and cancellation. Clear Street states trading capability exists only on the trading URL and recommends starting read-only.

Yes. Clear Street lists a login with access to at least one OEMS trading account as a prerequisite, plus an MCP-compatible client. There is no anonymous or demo mode. An unauthenticated request to the endpoint returned HTTP 401 with an OAuth challenge when we checked it on 2026-09-08.

Yes, by adding a query parameter to the endpoint URL. Clear Street documents appending an account filter to the connector URL, which is repeatable for several accounts. Clear Street states the assistant cannot reach accounts outside that filter regardless of your wider entitlements, so the filter narrows access rather than merely defaulting it.

Clear Street's troubleshooting table gives two causes: you connected the read-only URL, or your login lacks the Trade permission on any account in scope. On the read-only endpoint this is expected behaviour rather than a fault. Clear Street also notes some clients load tools only at startup, so a full client restart may be needed.

No. Clear Street states that sign-in always goes through its own login page over OAuth, that your AI assistant never sees your password, and that no client secret is required. We confirmed the server advertises an OAuth authorization server over the wire on 2026-09-08. Clear Street also warns against pasting credentials into chat.
