Limits

  • Midpage states its outputs may contain errors, omissions or inaccuracies, and may not reflect the most recent legal developments. Its terms say outputs are generated by machine learning models (Midpage terms and conditions, fetched 2026-08-19).
  • Midpage requires you to verify before filing. Its terms state outputs must be independently verified for accuracy before being relied upon or used in any legal proceeding, filing or communication, and that the user is solely responsible for decisions taken.
  • Outputs are not legal advice and create no attorney-client relationship. Midpage states it is a technology company, not a law firm, and that its services are not a substitute for independent legal research or professional judgment.
  • Midpage disclaims accuracy warranties outright. Its terms provide the services and outputs "as is" and state Midpage does not warrant them to be accurate, complete or error-free.
  • No accuracy rate is published. We found no benchmark, error rate or evaluation methodology in the documentation or marketing pages we read. The grounding mechanism is documented; its measured reliability is not.
  • State trial court coverage is incomplete by Midpage's own statement — select courts only, with more added weekly. Federal coverage and state appellate coverage are claimed complete.
  • A paid subscription is required. Midpage states an active subscription is needed to set up the Claude connector; a two-week free trial is offered on all plans.
  • Docket tools are a paid feature with usage-based cost. Midpage lists agentic PACER tools under its Pro tier with bundled monthly credits and then pay-per-use. Per-call pricing is not published.
  • Four of the seven tools are preview. Midpage states the docket and laws tool contracts may change as it refines the workflows. Pin to a version if you depend on fixed output fields.
  • Laws tools return no raw text. Midpage documents analyzeLaw as analyzing the document internally and returning verified passages only; some provisions are review-only via a URL.
  • Historical law lookups need an entitlement. Midpage documents that without historical entitlement on the key, widening flags and historical lookups return HTTP 403 and the version chain comes back empty.
  • Search has documented sharp edges. searchLaws rejects unknown keys rather than ignoring them, caps pagination at 50 per page with no access beyond the first 10,000 results, and returns per-state counts Midpage labels estimates. Midpage advises running a parallel unknown-status case query because some jurisdictions have missing publication metadata.
  • We could not verify tool behaviour ourselves. The endpoint returned HTTP 401 to an anonymous handshake on 2026-08-19, so no schemas and no safety annotations were readable. Tool names come from Anthropic's directory and Midpage's documentation.
  • Prompts are unconfirmed. Anthropic's snapshot lists no prompt names, and the gated endpoint blocked our own check, so we cannot say whether the server serves any.
  • Nothing here is legal advice, including this page. The ownership and reuse position described below is Midpage's contractual position with its customers, not a statement about copyright law.

Frequently asked questions

How does Midpage stop an AI from inventing a case citation?

By quoting rather than generating. Midpage documents `analyzeOpinion` as reading the full document, then returning each proposition beside a verbatim quote from that opinion, a `centrality` rating and a `deeplinkURL` that opens the source at the quoted lines. It also returns `doesNotAddress`, naming parts of your question the opinion never reaches, so silence is reported instead of filled.

Does Midpage say I still need to check citations before filing?

Yes, explicitly. Midpage's terms state outputs may contain errors, omissions or inaccuracies, that they do not constitute legal advice, and that outputs must be independently verified for accuracy before being relied on in any legal proceeding, filing or communication. Midpage also states it is a technology company, not a law firm, and that its services do not replace independent legal research.

What courts does the Midpage MCP server cover, and how current is it?

US federal and state courts, refreshed several times daily. Midpage claims complete federal coverage including unpublished opinions, complete coverage of all state appellate courts, and select state trial courts. Its documentation describes 300-plus custom scrapers visiting court websites six times per day, and its FAQ says new opinions are ingested continuously.

Does the Midpage MCP server list every tool Midpage documents?

No. Anthropic's 2026-08-16 snapshot names three tools; Midpage's own MCP documentation names seven. The four omitted are `analyzeDocketReport`, `analyzeDocketFiling`, `searchLaws` and `analyzeLaw`, all marked preview by Midpage. Those reach federal docket sheets, individual filings, and statutes and regulations across all fifty states — a much wider corpus than the snapshot implies.

Is the Midpage MCP server free to use?

No. Midpage states an active subscription is required to set up the Claude connector. Published plans start at 30 dollars per month for Starter and 80 dollars per month for Pro billed annually, with a Legal Engineer tier priced on request. Midpage offers a two-week free trial on all plans, and its Pro tier bundles monthly credits before pay-per-use.

Who owns what Midpage returns, and can I reuse it in a brief?

Midpage's terms say you own the output. They define responses as Your Content, state you retain ownership of inputs and own outputs, and assign to you any interest Midpage might hold in an output. Midpage separately retains all rights in its own software, models and underlying technology. This is Midpage's contractual position, not legal advice about copyright.

What OAuth permissions does the Midpage MCP server request?

Two: `profile` and `email`. Midpage's RFC 9728 resource descriptor advertises exactly that pair, verified live on 2026-08-19. Neither scope is a case-law read or write permission, so the scope grant identifies you rather than partitioning what the tools can reach. Access to the legal corpus is governed by your Midpage subscription tier, not by the scope you approve.
