Frequently asked questions
Is the Motion MCP connector really read only?
Yes, with one narrow exception that does not touch your data. Thirteen of the fourteen tools only read. The fourteenth, submit_feedback, sends a bug report or feature request to Motion's own team along with your conversation context. Motion's documentation states the connector retrieves data but does not modify your account, creatives or settings.
Where does Motion get competitors' ad creatives from?
From Meta's Ad Library, the public archive Meta publishes of ads running on Facebook and Instagram. Motion's Inspo documentation states the feature currently displays ads from that library. Because the archive is public, your own live Meta ads are visible to other Motion customers on the same terms that theirs are visible to you.
Can I see a competitor's ROAS or ad spend through Motion?
No. Motion's documentation is explicit that performance metrics such as ROAS and spend are available only for your own ads. Competitor research through the Inspo tools returns creative metadata instead: format, ad copy, headline, call to action, launch date, status, days active and landing page. Nobody else's numbers are exposed.
Which ad platforms does the Motion MCP server support?
Meta only, as of this check. Motion's MCP documentation states that TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn are not yet available through the connector, even though the Motion product itself integrates with all four. One MCP grant reaches every workspace across every organisation where your Motion account has permissions, not just one ad account.
Do I need a paid Motion plan to use the MCP server?
You need an active Motion account. Motion's pricing page lists MCP access inside the Starter plan at 750 US dollars a month for brands spending up to 50,000 dollars monthly on ads. You can also sign up during the authentication flow for a fourteen-day trial. Legacy and Custom plans require an upgrade first.
Why is the Motion MCP returning no data after I connect?
Your account is still syncing. Motion's troubleshooting notes say the connector reads cached and tagged data rather than calling ad platform APIs live, because live calls have been known to get ad accounts flagged. A newly connected data source needs a few hours before performance tools return results. The competitor research tools work immediately.
Can guest users connect the Motion MCP server?
No. Motion's documentation restricts MCP access to Owner, Admin and Collaborator roles. Guest accounts and partner-share accounts cannot authenticate at all, and an admin has to change the role before they can. Each person authenticates individually, so the connector sees only the workspaces that individual already has permission to open in Motion.
What OAuth permissions does the Motion MCP server request?
Four, and all four are identity claims. Its RFC 9728 descriptor advertises openid, profile, email and offline_access. None of them names ad data, creatives or reports, so no advertised scope draws a boundary around what the connector can read. The access boundary is your Motion role and workspace membership, applied after the token is issued.
Does get_demographic_breakdown expose individual people?
No. Motion documents the tool as splitting your own ad performance by age bracket, running from 18 to 24 through 65 and over, and by gender. The metrics returned are spend, ROAS, purchase value, cost per purchase and thumbstop ratio. These are aggregate audience segments reported by the ad platform, not records about identifiable individuals.
