Alma

by Alma

Healthcare5 tools

Read your own Alma food log — meals, 25+ nutrients, Alma Score trends, goals and weight history — from your AI assistant. Five read-only tools, OAuth sign-in, and one unusual property for a health connector: the only person in the data is you.

Verified connector

Listed by Anthropic as a partner connector in its Connectors Directory.

Connection checked by Agentman on .

Anthropic states this reflects the level of review a connector received, not a security audit.

Connect Alma via MCP

Works in any MCP-compatible client. In Agentman Studio it is one click — no config file to edit.

Limits

  • It is gated to paying subscribers of an iOS app. Alma publishes $99 per year, $19.99 per month, or a $59 one-time 90-day Gut Health Reset, with billing through the Apple App Store. There is no free tier and no non-iOS path documented. Alma states its plans are HSA/FSA eligible.
  • Nutrition figures are estimates and Alma says so. Its help centre states food tracking always involves estimates, that restaurant portions vary, home cooking varies and nutrition labels round their numbers, and that Alma aims for useful consistency rather than exhausting precision. Its terms add that it does not guarantee the accuracy of nutritional information and that users should not rely solely on the Services for health decisions. Carry that caveat into any conclusion drawn from the connector.
  • Photo and voice logging compound the estimation. Alma notes photos are useful for visual estimates but that labels, ingredients and your own description improve accuracy — meaning the precision of a given meal record depends on how it was logged, and the tool response will not tell you which method was used.
  • Two different Alma Scores share one name. Daily diet quality runs 0 to 100; the public meal scorer runs -10 to +10. Which scale get_alma_score_data returns is undocumented. Establish the range before interpreting the number.
  • The score is an opinion, not a measurement. It is Alma's adaptation of the AHEI framework, which Alma states does not imply Harvard endorsement. It is a rating of a dietary pattern, not a clinical finding.
  • Alma is not a medical device and gives no medical advice — its own words. Its llms.txt tells AI assistants directly that Alma does not replace medical care and that condition-specific advice belongs with a clinician or registered dietitian.
  • No documented regulatory position. Nothing in Alma's privacy policy, terms, help centre or llms.txt mentions HIPAA, PHI or a business associate agreement. Absence of a statement is not a statement of absence; it means the question is unanswered in the published record.
  • Your data reaches a second AI provider by design. Alma already discloses sending food logs and questions to Microsoft Azure OpenAI under a no-training contract. Connecting an MCP client adds a model provider governed by your agreement with that vendor, on which Alma publishes nothing.
  • Time ranges and parameters are entirely unknown. No inputSchema was readable, so we cannot say how far back any tool reaches, whether results paginate, or whether a date filter exists.
  • No tool documentation exists from the vendor. Alma's connector page is a marketing page with three short claims; its help centre has no MCP or Claude entry at all. Every tool name on this page comes from Anthropic's directory alone.
  • We could not verify tool behaviour ourselves. The endpoint returns 401 to an anonymous handshake, so no annotations, schemas or descriptions were readable. The read-only classification is Alma's plus the directory's, not ours from the wire.
  • A write scope is advertised with no write tool to match it. Unexplained in both sources.
  • Prompts: none listed, and unverifiable independently behind the gated endpoint.
  • The metadata contains a broken link. The service_documentation URL in the RFC 8414 document returns HTTP 404.

Frequently asked questions

Whose data does the Alma MCP server actually expose?

Your own, and only your own. Every tool reads the account you sign in with — your meals, your Alma Score, your goals, your weight history. That makes Alma structurally different from most sensitive connectors in this catalogue, which reach records about other people. You are the data subject here, consenting on your own behalf, and you can revoke the grant at any time.

Is Alma covered by HIPAA?

Alma's published policies say nothing about HIPAA. We searched its privacy policy, terms of service, help centre and site-wide llms.txt on 2026-08-19 and found no mention of HIPAA, protected health information, or a business associate agreement. Alma states separately that it is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. Treat the regulatory position as undocumented rather than settled either way.

What is the Alma Score, and is the methodology published?

It is a diet quality score, and yes, Alma publishes the framework. Alma describes the daily score as a 0 to 100 rating adapted from Harvard's Alternate Healthy Eating Index, raised by vegetables, fruit, whole grains, nuts, legumes, omega-3s and healthy fats, and lowered by processed meat, added sugar, sodium and alcohol. Alma states this implies no Harvard endorsement.

Can the Alma connector log a meal or change my goals?

No. Alma states its connector is read-only by design and that Claude cannot add, edit or delete your Alma entries. All five tool names begin with get_, Anthropic's permissions label is Read, and no create, update or delete tool appears in the directory listing. Alma's in-app Coach can make changes; the MCP connector is the narrower surface.

Does connecting Alma to Claude send my food log to an AI provider?

Yes, and that is the real consideration. Anything a tool returns enters your assistant's context and reaches whichever model vendor you use. Alma already discloses that it sends food logs and questions to Microsoft Azure OpenAI for its own coaching features, contractually barred from training on them. An MCP client adds a second model provider under your terms, not Alma's.

How accurate is the nutrition data the Alma connector returns?

Alma says food tracking always involves estimates. It states that restaurant portions vary, home cooking varies, and nutrition labels round their numbers, and that it aims for useful consistency rather than exhausting precision. Its terms add that it does not guarantee the accuracy of nutritional information. Read trends across many days rather than trusting any single figure.

Is the Alma MCP server free, or do you need a subscription?

You need a paid Alma subscription and the iOS app. Alma publishes three options: $99 per year, $19.99 per month, or a $59 one-time 90-day Gut Health Reset. Billing runs through the Apple App Store. The connector authenticates as your existing Alma account, so there is no separate connector signup or fee.

Why does the Alma endpoint have no path after the hostname?

Because the MCP server is mounted at the host root. The endpoint is https://mcp.alma.food with nothing appended, which is unusual — most connectors in this catalogue end in /mcp. It also means the root and path-append forms of every well-known discovery URL collapse to the same address, so there is only one document to check, not two.
