Is the Frontify MCP server generally available or still in beta?
It is in beta. Frontify's MCP article opens with a beta notice stating the server may be incomplete, unstable or subject to breaking changes, and that no support commitments or reliability guarantees are provided. The same article says no formal support is offered during this phase, so treat breaking changes between sessions as expected rather than exceptional.
How do you turn on the Frontify MCP server?
You ask Frontify to enable it. The MCP server is not on by default, and Frontify's documentation gives one activation route: contact your customer success manager and request that Frontify MCP be enabled for your account. Once enabled, every tool pack becomes reachable through its own URL, and you connect from Claude's directory.
Does the Frontify MCP server cost extra?
No, not during beta. Frontify's MCP article states the server is free to use while in beta, with no additional cost, and that usage does not count toward monthly active users. The same article says pricing may be introduced once the feature leaves beta, that customers will be notified in advance, and that there will be no surprise charges.
Can the Frontify connector overwrite an asset you already have?
Not overwrite — it stacks a new revision on top. Frontify's Revisions documentation describes revisions as versions of an asset collected in one place, with a rollback option that promotes an earlier version back to the top. The same article states the latest version cannot be deleted, so the previous file remains retrievable after a write.
Which URLs can the Frontify MCP server download a file from?
Any public HTTP or HTTPS URL, with no published allowlist. Frontify's own tool overview describes add_asset_revision_from_url and create_asset_from_url as downloading a file from a public http/https URL and creating the asset automatically. We found no documented domain restriction, so treat any URL an agent produces as the real input.
Which Frontify role do you need for the write-capable tool packs?
Editor or Owner on the specific space. Frontify's upload documentation states only Editors and Owners can upload assets, and that Viewers and Reviewers may browse and download but not add. Frontify's roles article adds that account admin status alone grants no editing rights without a project-level editor or owner role.
How do you limit what the Frontify MCP server is allowed to do?
Connect to a narrower tool pack instead of the main URL. Frontify publishes ten packs, each at its own endpoint, and the read-only discovery pack contains 24 tools that make no changes to Frontify data. Pointing your client at that pack's URL locks the connection to it, regardless of any account-level setting.
