Morningstar Credit Analytics Tools & Capabilities (22)
Tool names from Anthropic's directory listing. This server requires sign-in, so we could not read tool descriptions or parameter schemas.
Limits
- A premium licence is required. Morningstar states "Access to data requires a premium license" and describes the connector as being for licensed users. No free tier is documented.
- Results are silently scoped to your entitlements. Morningstar delivers data "within existing entitlement and access controls". An incomplete answer is indistinguishable from a complete one, and no tool reports what your account covers.
- The scope of the data is CMBS and CRE only — conduit, SASB, CRE CLO and agency structures. Despite the Morningstar name and the directory's description, this connector is not a route to fund, equity or manager research.
- The OAuth grant is all-or-nothing. Only identity scopes are advertised; there is no application scope to decline.
- We could not read tool schemas or safety annotations. The endpoint requires OAuth, so parameter-level detail,
readOnlyHintflags and the interactive-UI behaviour are unverified. Tool names come from Anthropic's directory. - Whether the tool count varies by subscription tier is unestablished. Morningstar publishes no tier-to-tool matrix and we did not authenticate to test one.
- This is data, not advice. Loss forecasts, stress scenarios and analyst commentary are Morningstar research outputs. Neither Morningstar's MCP page nor its launch announcement carries an investment-advice disclaimer for the connector specifically, which is a gap in the vendor's published material rather than a finding that none applies.
- Support runs through the web app, not the connector. Morningstar directs users to log in to the Morningstar Credit Analytics web application and use the help link there.
Frequently asked questions
Do you need a Morningstar Credit Analytics licence to use the MCP server?
Yes. Morningstar Credit Analytics states plainly that access to the data requires a premium licence, and its launch announcement describes the connector as being for licensed users. There is no free or trial tier documented for the MCP endpoint. The server refuses an anonymous connection outright, so a Morningstar Credit Analytics account is the starting point, not an optional extra.
Does the connector show the same data to everyone who connects it?
No. Morningstar delivers the data within existing entitlement and access controls, so two people running the same question can legitimately get different answers. The vendor describes portfolio surveillance as covering your licensed deal universe. The tool list does not change with your licence — the results returned inside it do, which is not visible from the connector listing.
Can the Morningstar Credit Analytics connector change or trade anything?
No. Anthropic's directory records the permission for this connector as the exact string Read only, and none of the 22 published tool names contains a create, update, delete, send, order or trade verb. Every name describes a search, a detail lookup, a forecast, a commentary read or a dashboard view. No tool writes back to Morningstar and none touches an account or places a transaction.
Which CMBS structures does the Morningstar Credit Analytics MCP server cover?
Conduit, SASB, CRE CLO and agency structures, according to Morningstar's own launch announcement and product page. Within those, the vendor lists pool composition, tranche analytics and monthly surveillance data, plus loan-level performance. Coverage is commercial real estate and commercial mortgage-backed securities — not the equity, fund and manager research that the Morningstar brand more broadly implies.
Is this the same as the main Morningstar MCP server?
No. They are two separate connectors from the same parent company with different endpoints. This one serves CMBS and CRE credit data from mcp.analytics.credit.morningstar.com. A second Anthropic-listed Morningstar connector serves analyst research, market analysis and fund holdings from a different host with six tools. Connecting one does not give you the other.
What are you agreeing to when you approve the Morningstar sign-in screen?
Everything the connector can reach, because there is nothing narrower to pick. The server's published OAuth metadata advertises only the identity scopes openid, profile and offline_access — no application scope that would separate one kind of credit data from another. Your Morningstar entitlements, set outside the consent screen, are what actually bound the access.
